Rose Anne Stanard
The serene scenes in the art of Rose Anne Huck Stanard reflect the world around her and her love of the peacefulness of nature. “The sights and sounds of nature feed my soul and create a sense of wonder in me.” She was born into the Barbour and Hammons families in Southeast Missouri in Poplar Bluff. Several generations of her family have called Poplar Bluff home.
Rose Anne’s interest in art began at a young age when she was inspired by her mother, Rose Barbour’s interest and talent in art. In High School Rose Anne entered and won awards in local art shows. She studied at the University of Missouri in Columbia and Kansas University in Lawrence. She has a love of art history, archeology and anthropology and has studied extensively in these subject areas.
For most of her professional career, Rose Anne has been a graphic designer working with studios and agencies in Chicago, IL, Sacramento and Fresno, CA, Hannibal and Southeast Missouri, and Washington, DC. She is also an accomplished illustrator winning a number of awards for her work.
In 2017, her husband, Rev. David Huck, passed away of complications from Parkinson's Disease. Then in 2021, Rose Anne married her long-time friend, John Stanard. They now make their home in Poplar Bluff. The rural countryside supplies Rose Anne with an endless stream of subject matter. “The sunlight crosses our valley from morning until night creating lovely, shifting images which inspire me.” In addition, Rose Anne enjoys painting the scenes from her travels across the country and around the world.
The Hudson River School of artists has been a long time inspiration to Rose Anne as well as the Impressionist movement. “I love capturing the light of the early morning on fields and water! I work in a somewhat loose, hopefully expressive style. I think it implies the movement and liveliness of nature in a way more static representations cannot.” Many people viewing my work will say, “I remember playing in a place like that when I was a child!”
