Next to the creek on my farm, there is a gate where the cattle can access the water and where they are moved from one field to another. The gate was standing open on this morning with the sun shining brightly on it. The scene felt like the light was growing and warming the whole world. I wanted to share that feeling of warmth and show the contrast to the coolness in the shadows. The lane shown goes right into the low water bridge. The trees form a strong vertical anchor for the piece. I used a burnt sienna underpainting to warm up the coolness of the dark greens in these landscapes. You can see it peeking out here and there.
