Cave Springs is a lovely hidden gem in Southeast Missouri. It has been a source of water for the area since pioneer times. The spring flows out of the rocky hillside to form a spring branch that makes its way into the Current River.

My beloved, John, and I love to explore the back hills of our Missouri home. One one trip we made our way to Cave Springs down a winding road and along a gravel pathway to find a clear pool of water held back by a mossy manmade wall, where it was clear a waterwheel had once stood. These streams were the essential source of water and sometimes power for the early settlers in our area. The rocks of the hillside and the water making its way along the forest floor created a spring branch which flows into the mighty Current River.

Cave Springs hides deep in the Southern Missouri hills and pours out from a massive rock wall, cascading down rocks to join to the Current River. There is a manmade pond there where I understand a grinding stone used to be. Now it is a place where a stone wall holds back enough water to form a large pool overflowing into the stream below. It is perfectly hidden down a narrow winding pathway. The wildflowers are spectacular here in the springtime.
